Multiple left injured after crash involving two tractor-trailers in Alice

JIM WELLS COUNTY, TX – Three people were hurt, one critically, early Monday due to a multi-vehicle wreck involving two big rigs in Alice, according to KGNS.

The accident happened on the southbound side of U.S. Highway 281 near County Road 129, at around 2:45 a.m.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials said a 48-year-old Mission, Texas resident was driving a tractor-trailer southbound on US-281 when the vehicle’s tire blew out. Moments later, the truck overturned, injuring its driver and emptying its cargo onto the roadway.

A 67-year-old McAllen, Texas resident stopped to assist the hurt truck driver when a second freightliner heading southbound on the highway collided with the rolled trailer. Officials indicated that the bystander was injured in the process. The patient was first taken to an Alice hospital but then transferred to a Corpus Christi hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The driver of the second truck, a 38-year-old San Antonio resident, was also hurt. Both truck drivers suffered major injuries in the accident but were last reported stable at a local hospital.
