PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that it was a man and a woman from Hauppage, New York, who died when they collided with a semi-truck Thursday.
An updated news article from WPTV shows that around 2 a.m., the man, 41, driving a Nissan Altima had first slammed into the Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck (which overturned) on the northbound lanes on Florida’s Turnpike before crashing into a concrete barrier wall. There at the collision site, the man and his female passenger, aged 36, succumbed to fatal wounds, while ambulance crews rushed the semi-truck driver (whose physical condition and severity of injuries were unspecified) to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital.
After FHP and Florida Department of Transportation crews arrived, they closed all of the northbound lanes for several hours before reopening the area at 9:30 a.m.
