Semi fails to slow down, ending in fatal fiery truck crash in Hewitt

HEWITT, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety said a semi-driver failed to reduce their speed when traffic slowed, which would end in a fatal fiery crash with two other big rigs Wednesday.

According to KWTX, the wreck happened on I-35 near mile marker 326 and also involved six-passenger vehicles. First responders pulled up to the scene after 6 a.m. and took seven people to Baylor Scott and White in Waco. There, one of the occupants would succumb to her injuries. Medical staff have identified her as 39-year-old Jennifer James from Lorena.

Emergency crews have not disclosed the surviving occupants’ physical conditions or stated what kind of vehicle James traveled in.

The Texas Department of Public Safety launched an investigation. As it stands, they have not confirmed if the driver who failed to reduce their speed would face any citations or charges.
