Woman killed in fiery rollover crash involving tractor-trailer in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY, TN — A multi-vehicle crash involving a big rig Tuesday afternoon near Rosemark claimed the life of a 24-year-old woman, according to ABC 24.

The accident happened at the intersection of Mudville Road and Austin Peay Highway (State Route 14), prompting an emergency response some time after 2:30 p.m.

Tennessee Highway Patrol officials said the tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on Austin Peay Highway at the same time a Ford Expedition was going northbound on the same roadway. The victim, identified as Jessica Carlton, was driving a Chevrolet Colorado eastbound on Mudville Road when she attempted to make a left turn onto northbound Austin Peay. Moments later, her driver’s side door was hit by the tractor-trailer, sending the Chevrolet crashing into the Expedition.

The force of the crash caused the Colorado to roll over and then catch fire. First responders pronounced Carlton deceased at the scene.

The other involved parties, including two people in the big rig and an adult and a young child in the Expedition, were not reported injured.

No further information has been released, and no pending charges have been reported.
