HAMBLEN COUNTY, TN — A driver was injured last Tuesday, November 28, when he crashed his truck into the front of Russellville Elementary School in southwest Russellville, reports WVLT.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the accident happened off East Andrew Johnson Highway, during after-school hours, but prompted a campus closure for the remainder of the week.
Preliminary details indicate the victim was behind the wheel of an unspecified truck when he suffered a medical episode. Moments later, the vehicle ran off the roadway, up an embankment, and then traveled through the grounds of the National Guard Armory. It then slammed into the front of the school.
Authorities indicated that the driver was hurt as a result of the wreck, but the severity of his condition was not immediately disclosed.
It was unclear what kind of damage the school may have sustained, but classes were expected to resume on campus by the coming Monday.
