JASPER COUNTY, MS — Part of southbound Interstate 59 was shut down Friday morning near Heidelberg following a multi-truck accident, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).
The accident happened on the southbound lanes before Exit 113 to Mississippi State Highway 528. It was first recorded by MDOT at 6:35 a.m.
Little information has been released, but all southbound lanes remained closed for more than five hours, suggesting a serious accident and a more involved response.

At 9:54 a.m., local police were diverting traffic onto US-11 at Exit 118.
By 12:09 p.m., crews had cleared the tractor-trailers from the roadway and all travel lanes were reopened to traffic.
