Driver dies after fiery crash involving box truck on I-75 in Macon

BIBB COUNTY, GA — A 66-year-old man died Monday following a multi-vehicle wreck involving a box truck on Interstate 75 in Macon, reports 13WMAZ.

The fatal accident happened on the southbound lanes of I-75 near the exit to Pierce Avenue. Dispatchers first received the call at about 1:43 p.m.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, a box truck, three pickup trucks, and an SUV were involved in a crash that caused at least one vehicle to catch fire.

The driver of a Nissan Titan, identified as Jefferey Louis Davis, of Lyons, Georgia, was pronounced deceased at the scene by first responders.

Authorities say that the decedent’s wife is among four patients who were rushed to an area hospital for unspecified injuries.

Part of the southbound interstate was delayed at Riverside Drive as crews responded to the scene.
