MIAMI-DADE CO, FL – A driver of a big rig succumbed to fatal wounds after their truck caught on fire after crashing into a guard rail and two structural beams Thursday.
This collision happened on I-75 South, and the support pillar that was hit was the Miami Gardens overpass, according to Local 10.
Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that the driver was not able to escape the burning vehicle and died as a result.
Troopers closed I-75 South and told drivers to take Florida’s Turnpike as crews worked to clear the scene, which included debris from the collision.
Florida Department of Transportation engineers also came to the scene to confirm whether the bridge’s structural integrity was compromised. FDOT crews did not provide a verdict, and officials have not released other information, including what exactly led the driver to collide with the overpass.
