Driver hurt as semi strikes barrier wall off I-75 in Hillsborough County

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A semi-truck lost control and struck a barrier wall in east Gibsonton Tuesday afternoon, injuring its driver, according to WTSP.

The incident took place on the northbound side of Interstate 75 approaching Exit 250 to Gibsonton Drive. Dispatchers were first alerted at around 12:35 p.m.

An early investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol indicates the victim was operating the semi northbound. At one point, for reasons still unclear, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to jackknife and hit the barrier wall.

Authorities said the driver suffered injuries deemed non-life-threatening, but it was unclear whether the patient had to be taken to a hospital.

All northbound lanes past the exit and south of Alafia River were shut down as crews tended to the crash and resulting fuel leak.
