DESOTO COUNTY, FL — One person lost their life Thursday afternoon when their sedan collided with a semi-truck on U.S. Highway 17 near southwest Arcadia, according to WINK.
Florida Highway Patrol said troopers were dispatched to the scene on a stretch of Southwest US-17 near Senate Street, some time before 3:00 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that the sedan was on Southwest Senate Street and facing east while waiting at a stop sign before the intersection of US-17 State Road 35. Authorities said that as the sedan continued into the intersection, it entered the direct path of a southbound semi-truck, which collided with the sedan’s left side on the highway.
First responders pronounced the driver of the sedan deceased at the scene.
No other details have been shared, but the FHP continues to investigate.
