MEMPHIS, TN – A driver of an 18-wheeler was left in critical condition after his truck collided with an ambulance and fire truck engine on I-40 Friday.
The events unfolded around 1:30 a.m. when the tractor-trailer driver had veered off the westbound lanes and struck the fire truck and ambulance on the eastbound lanes, WREG indicated in a report.
Tennessee Highway Patrol said the patient inside the ambulance was sent to St. Francis-Bartlett for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds, while medics took the truck driver to Regional One Hospital.
Authorities closed the westbound lanes for the standard clean-up process and investigation.
Since the investigation is in its early stages, troopers have not been able to disclose the circumstances behind this crash.
