Tanker truck catches fire following crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Palm Beach County

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL — A tanker truck became engulfed in flames and black smoke after a crash early Friday on the Florida’s Turnpike near Lake Worth Beach, reports CBS News.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene at mile marker 89, shortly before 6:00 a.m.

While authorities have not said what led up to the accident, but the truck was carrying 1,000 gallons of diesel and 7,500 gallons of gasoline at the time. All lanes of the turnpike were shut down for more than two hours.

Morning commuters faced long delays as crews worked to clear the wreckage and clean a resulting fuel spill, which involved mounting a makeshift dam to collect thousands of gallons of fuel.

No major injuries were reported, and no other vehicles appear to have been involved.
