Driver dies after vehicle, big rig collide on US-278 in Winston County

WINSTON COUNTY, AL — A woman died Thursday morning following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 278 near Addison that left another person injured, reports WVTM13.

The fatal collision unfolded on a stretch of US-278 several miles east of the city at around 7:30 a.m.

According to Alabama State Troopers, 42-year-old Leigh Johnson, of Addison, was behind the wheel of a vehicle that struck a large truck head-on.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to a Cullman hospital for unspecified injuries. Their identity has not been disclosed at this time.

Authorities have not released a sequence of events leading up to the impact, but an investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division remains underway.
