OSCEOLA COUNTY, FL — A passenger car crashed into a Publix semitrailer Tuesday morning in east St. Cloud, killing a local resident, reports Click Orlando.
Florida Highway Patrol officials said the fatal accident unfolded on westbound U.S. Highway 192/441 (State Highway 500) at Bradley Drive.
A crash report released by the FHP indicates a 37-year-old Orlando woman was operating a Publix semitrailer when she began making a U-turn on the highway, blocking the westbound lanes. A 28-year-old St. Cloud man was driving a 2022 Honda Accord westbound struck the side of the semi with its front end, causing the Honda to slide underneath the trailer.
First responders pronounced the male driver deceased at the scene.
The FHP said the driver of the semitrailer was not reported hurt.
A section of westbound US-192 was shut down during the emergency response and investigation, which remains underway.
All lanes were reopened to traffic shortly before 10:00 a.m.
It remains unclear at this time whether the semi driver is expected to be charged.
