Trucker killed in hit-and-run on US-1 near Petersburg, VA

DINWIDDIE CO., VA – A North Carolina big rig driver died Friday night in an auto-pedestrian crash along the highway in Dinwiddie County, Virginia.

According to WTVR 6 News, the accident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on US-1, or Boydton Plank Road, near the Aldi Distribution Center in the southwestern outskirts of Petersburg.

Police say that a truck driver from Snow River, North Carolina, was standing alongside a semi-truck and conversing with another truck driver when a northbound car hit him.

The victim, identified as Linwood Earl Williams, died after transport to an area hospital.

The driver involved in the collision did not stop to render aid or to speak with authorities.
