GOOCHLAND COUNTY, VA – A 51-year-old man from Amelia died after a fallen tree hit his semi-truck while he was driving on I-64 East Wednesday.
According to 12onyourside, the man lost control of his truck once the tree fell, causing him to drift off the road and crash into a wooded area. The debris from this collision then struck another moving vehicle.
Virginia State Police arrived at the scene around 3:30 p.m. and declared the man dead at the scene. He has since been identified as Frank James Porter-Loftin.
Crews shut down the right lane so they could remove the significantly damaged truck from the site. During the closures, police worked with the Virginia Department of Transportation to redirect traffic toward exit 167 and to keep traffic flowing on the left lane.
