SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA – An 18-year-old man had declined to maintain control of his vehicle when he hit a big rig on I-95, sending the truck driver to the hospital on Thursday.
This collision took place near the Patriot Highway, WRIC said. Virginia State Police (VSP) said the 18-year-old man, identified as Ashton M. Faircloth, a Stafford County resident, had swerved off his lanes to avoid the slowed traffic on the interstate’s southbound lanes. As a result, he struck the Kenworth semi-truck with his Lexus, and the truck then crashed off the road.
EMS crews said the truck driver, 43-year-old Frank K. Tandoh, from Dumfries, was taken to VCU Health for non-life-threatening wounds. They confirmed Dumfries wore a seatbelt, while Faircloth, who did not, was also transported to a hospital, but for serious wounds.
Authorities charged Faircloth with reckless driving and failure to maintain proper control of his lane.
VSP started an investigation and has not released other details.
