RICHMOND, VA – A pedestrian suffered fatal injuries, and a big rig driver was sent to the hospital as a result of a two-truck crash that happened on Thursday.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Williamsburg Road and S. Laburnum Avenue, WRIC reports. Preliminary details reveal that the driver of a big rig, transporting a concrete slab, first crashed into a propane truck. The impact of the collision caused the big rig to jackknife, overturn, and crash into the male pedestrian on the sidewalk.
The pedestrian was also pinned underneath and succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene.
EMS crews transported the big rig driver to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Both trucks were significantly damaged, resulting in a several-hour-long shutdown of west and eastbound Williamsburg Road near S. Laburnum Avenue.
