SUFFOLK, VA – One person inside a tractor-trailer lost their life after the truck’s cab caught on fire in the 4400 block of Holland Road Saturday.
WAVY said this collision happened before 3 a.m.
Originally, someone dispatched emergency crews, claiming that someone had collided with a power line, which had caused a bush fire. However, upon arrival, Suffolk firefighters said the fire possibly resulted after the tractor-trailer hit several trees.
Emergency responders said the big rig’s saddle tank ruptured but did not confirm if that also contributed to the fire. Even though the cab itself caught on fire, the truck’s shipping container did not catch on fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office and the Suffolk Police Department.
No other information, including the deceased person’s name, has been made available.
