SUFFOLK, VA – A driver of a tractor-trailer had struck a man standing outside his car on I-664 South, which led the man to suffer fatal wounds Tuesday.
The collision happened after 1 a.m. along College Drive, according to WAVY. The 2023 Volkswagen sustained significant damage, and its driver, 39-year-old Corey Knight, was declared dead at the scene.
The Red Knights’s big rig was left with moderate damage to the passenger side.
Due to the severity of the crash, Virginia State Police were left with no choice but to shut down the southbound lanes along the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel. They later reopened the area.
Additional information reveals that Knight had his emergency lights activated at the time of the wreck.
The Commonwealth Attorney of Suffolk will be assisting police with the investigation. They will determine whether or not the truck driver will be charged.
