HENRICO, VA – After an SUV driver collided with a box truck driver, it led the box truck to overturn, injuring both drivers and claiming the lives of two SUV passengers.
This collision was reported before 6:30 a.m. Thursday at South Laburnum Avenue and New Market Road, according to WRIC. After the vehicles crashed, the truck and SUV came to rest in a wooded area. The truck was seen on its side, although it’s unconfirmed if the SUV itself rolled over.
Henrico County Police, who responded to the scene, declared the two SUV passengers dead at the scene.
First responders took the two drivers to a hospital, where the truck driver was being treated for minor wounds and the SUV driver for serious injuries.
Police blocked some southbound Laburnum lanes for several hours and prior closed some eastbound lanes on Laburnum. They also shut down some New Market westbound lanes, only reducing traffic to one lane.
All lanes have reopened since.
Police started an investigation but have not provided further commentary with respect to the events leading to this collision, including which driver was at fault, and released the names of the victims.
New details will be added should they become available.
