BRUNSWICK COUNTY, VA – A driver was injured the morning of New Year’s Eve when a truck they were driving overturned, leading to several hours of cleanup in Brunswick County, reports ABC 8 News.
The incident took place at 61 Old Stage Road on Tuesday, December 31, at around 9:00 a.m.
While the events leading up to the wreck have not been specified, officials said a truck carrying more than 8,000 gallons of gasoline rolled over.
While its driver managed to self-extricate from the truck before emergency responders arrived on the scene, the patient had to be transported to a hospital for minor injuries.
The South Hill Volunteer Fire Department and other regional hazmat crews were among the multiple agencies called to the scene, where efforts were being made to contain the spill coming out of the overturned trailer.
Crews also spent much time removing the truck, trailer, and spilled gasoline from out of a nearby ditch. The entire clean-up process was expected to take multiple days.
