1 killed, 1 hurt in head-on collision involving box truck in North Garden 

NORTH GARDEN, VA – A pickup truck driver was killed, and a box truck driver was injured in a head-on collision that occurred after 8 a.m. Tuesday on Route 29 South.

The Albemarle County Police Department told 29News that one of the motorists was traveling north on the highway when they drifted out of their lane, went into the southbound lane, and crashed head-on into the other vehicle.

The pickup truck driver died at the scene and has since been identified as 67-year-old Randall Bickel from Covesville, Virginia.

Medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the box truck driver to  UVA Health for treatment of injuries deemed serious but non-life-threatening.

Police said the surviving occupant was driving a Krispy Kreme donut truck. Krispy Kreme has not released a formal statement regarding the driver or the deadly crash.

As of this writing, officers did not specify which driver lost control of their vehicle and drifted out of their lane.

A full investigation is underway.
