1 killed, 1 hurt as driver runs red light, hits semi in Supply

SUPPLY, VA – A 61-year-old man driving a pickup truck ran a stop sign and hit a tractor-trailer, resulting in his death and injuring the 18-wheeler driver Wednesday.

WRIC said this collision occurred before 4:45 a.m. at the Supply Road and Tidewater Trail interchange while the semi-driver was traveling south. Upon arrival, Virginia State Police declared the pickup truck motorist dead at the crash site, whom they identified as Danny William Holmes from Essex County.

Troopers said the semi-motorist suffered a “non-life-threatening injury” but did not confirm if they were sent to a hospital.

Not many details about Wednesday morning’s wreck have been made available. However, based on the source’s photo, it appeared that this crash caused the large truck to jackknife.

No additional information, including pending charges or citations, has been posted.
