Man, 51, dies as truck slams into tree near Flat 

NEAR FLAT, TX – A 51-year-old man driving a Hino L6 truck lost his life when he swerved off eastbound Highway 36 near CR 334 and plowed into a tree Thursday. 

This solo collision happened after 6 p.m., FOX 44 News reported. Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers, Coryell County Sheriff’s Office, a local fire department, and emergency medical services crews all responded to the scene. 

Upon arriving, first responders declared the driver, Mark McCartney, dead at the scene. 

Emergency crews started an investigation but have not been able to pinpoint what caused McCartney to leave the road.
