Man, 42, killed in trash truck collision in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, TX – A 42-year-old man died last Tuesday, Sept. 9, as a result of a trash truck collision on Interstate 35.

The man was identified as Jonathon Scott Morgan, according to an update from KXAN. Preliminary details show that a trash truck driver was driving on the interstate when he crashed into some of the bridge’s beams. The force of the collision caused pieces of the bridge to fall down and then crash into Morgan, who was driving another vehicle.

The crash took place on Tuesday, Sept.  2, and Morgan died a week later.

Authorities issued a several-hour-long shutdown and reopened all lanes around 6:30 p.m.

Engineers were summoned to the scene of the crash for inspection purposes. It’s unclear if the structural integrity of the bridge was compromised, although officials did mention possible future closures.
