TYE, TX – One semi-truck driver hit another tractor-trailer, and a service truck parked along the road, causing all trucks to catch fire and leaving two people in critical condition.
This three-vehicle wreck occurred around 2:15 a.m. last Friday, August 9, at the I-20 and I-277 connector, according to KTAB/KRBC.
The police said the driver of a service truck was changing a tire when the first semi plowed into the second 18-wheeler, the impact causing the struck semi to strike the service truck.
In addition, the driver of the semi that was responsible for the crash, who carried a large beam that weighed 80,000 pounds, had fallen off the truck when the driver slammed into the other vehicles.
The two individuals left in critical condition had suffered serious burns and trauma to their bodies and heads, while two other occupants and an infant were also wounded.
One of the critically injured passengers was flown via a medical helicopter to a hospital in Dallas.
It is unclear if the baby and the two other passengers, who were not listed in critical condition, were taken to the hospital, although officials did say all occupants are expected to survive.
At this time, police are working to determine if tiredness or impairment were factors in this serious crash.
