11-vehicle collision with big rig kills 1, injures 8 in El Paso 

EL PASO, TX – One person was killed, and eight people sustained injuries following an 11-vehicle collision involving a big rig Thursday. 

According to KVIA, the events unfolded around 6 a.m. when the tractor-trailer driver collided with several vehicles at the North and South Desert Boulevard connector along Woodrow Bean Transmountain Drive. The big rig caught on fire and numerous vehicles were completely totaled. 

El Paso police, fire crews, and medics all hurried to the scene of the 11-vehicle collision. First responders said one person was left in serious condition, two with moderate injuries, and five with minor injuries. 

Out of the five left with minor injuries, EMS crews took two to the hospital, and the remaining refused to be sent to a medical facility. Another person was transported to a hospital by FireSTAR. 

Officials shut down the area for the scene clearance process and have not announced any reopening of lanes at this time. 

Authorities did not specify what caused the truck driver to slam into the multiple vehicles or mention any citations or pending criminal charges.
