PUTNAM COUNTY, TN — A 58-year-old woman from Ohio died Wednesday morning, December 20, near Baxter following a crash involving a truck with an enclosed trailer, reports WKRN.com.
The accident happened on a stretch of eastbound Interstate 40 near mile marker 280, at Baxter Road and Old Gainsboro Road. It was first reported by Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) officials at 8:45 a.m.
Preliminary details show a Dodge Ram 5500 pickup truck towing an enclosed trailer was traveling eastbound. At one point, for reasons still unclear, the truck ran off the left side of the roadway, traveled past the median, and entered the westbound highway, where it collided head-on with a Nissan Rogue.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as Tanya Johnson, died as a result of her injuries, confirmed officials. She was found to have been wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Dodge, a 51-year-old man, and their passenger, 15, both Georgia residents, were reported injured. No further details about their conditions have been shared. Both were also found to have been wearing seatbelts.
An investigation remains ongoing, but the THP said the driver of the Dodge faces charges.
