THP summoned to multi-vehicle crash involving semi-trucks in Mohawk

MOHAWK, TN – The Tennessee Highway Patrol was called to a multi-vehicle crash involving two semi-trucks on I-81 on Sunday.

THP told WIJHL that the multi-vehicle crash happened before 2:30 p.m. when a northbound semi-truck coming from New Jersey rear-ended another tractor-trailer that was stopped on the shoulder.

Once the two trucks collided, debris from the crash flew onto the road and crashed into two more northbound vehicles: a Mercedes E35 and a Ford Explorer.

Troopers said the driver of the moving semi-truck was the only injured occupant. He was identified as 35-year-old Avaliani Giorgi and charged with due care.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation shut down the northbound right lane and shoulder for the scene clean-up process and investigation.
