TDOT truck rear-ended on I-40 near south Newport

COCKE COUNTY, TN — A Tennessee Department of Transportation truck was involved in a crash Friday morning, November 3, on Interstate 40 near south Newport, reports WATE.

The incident was reported at mile marker 439, north of State Highway 73 and U.S. Route 321. It was first reported by WATE just after 3:20 p.m.

Officials say the TDOT truck was being used to protect a traffic backup. At one point, a passenger car, whose driver appeared to not have seen the truck in the queue, struck its back-right side.

While a sign sustained damage and was knocked into nearby grass, no serious injuries were reported.

No other information about the at-fault driver has been released.
