Injuries reported after MPD cruiser rear-ended by truck at Morristown crash site

HAMBLEN COUNTY, TN — An MPD officer was hurt last Wednesday afternoon afternoon, December 13, when his cruiser was struck by a truck on U.S. Highway 25E in Morristown, reports WATE.

While the Morristown Police Department did not disclose the exact location of the crash, it occurred at about 1:30 p.m., while the cruiser was positioned to protect a prior crash scene.

According to authorities, the officer was inside the vehicle with its emergency lights activated when a driver in a truck failed to move over. Moments later, the truck rear-ended the cruiser, causing its trunk to crumple in.

Despite severe damage to the cruiser, the officer suffered only minor injuries. It was unclear whether he had to be transported to a hospital.

An investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol was underway. No pending charges have been reported at this time.
