FALL BRANCH, TN – A driver of a semi-truck was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center after rear-ending another big rig on Monday.
The collision happened before 3 p.m. on I-81 North at mile marker 54, WIJL reports. Prior to the crash, the driver of the big rig was slowing down one one lane, going behind a TDOT truck. That big rig driver was waiting for the left lane to reopen when they were rear-ended by the other truck.
Once the two trucks collided, the driver responsible for the crash got either pinned or entrapped and required extrication conducted by fire crews. Medical helicopter personnel then took the motorist to the hospital.
The motorist who was rear-ended was spared from injuries, and the TDOT truck operator also appeared to have been unharmed. Crews shut down the area for the standard scene clearance and investigation and later reopened the lanes.
