SHELBYVILLE, TN – Two trash trucks caught on fire after colliding on Highway 437, resulting in the death of a 24-year-old man and a 46-year-old man over the weekend.
Tennessee Highway Patrol told WKRN that around 1 p.m., the 24-year-old man, driving a Western Star trash truck, had drifted out of the southbound lanes into the northbound lanes and collided head-on with a Kenworth T80 dump truck.
The impact of the collision caused the Western Star truck to veer off the road and flip on its side and the Kenworth to overturn. The Kenworth’s cargo spilled out, and both trucks caught on fire.
The Kenworth driver, a 46-year-old man, and the 24-year-old man succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Troopers identified the 46-year-old as Dante Guel and the 24-year-old as Marcue Johnson.
THP confirmed Guel was wearing a seatbelt but did not say if Johnson was belted.
The contributing factors behind the wreck are under investigation.
