18-wheeler catches fire, spills milk on I-75 near McDonald

BRADLEY COUNTY, TN — A tractor-tractor carrying 5,000 gallons of milk caught fire and spill its contents last Saturday afternoon on Interstate 75 near McDonald, reports News Channel 9.

The blaze was reported near mile marker 16 and prompted a response from the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department, Bradley County Fire Rescue, and the Hamilton County Hazmat team.

According to the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management (HCOEM), nearly 5,000 gallons of spill milk mixed with diesel released from saddle tanks.

While no one was reported injured, a hazmat team was called to the scene to contain the liquid and keep it from entering nearby storm drains.

Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes to avoid long delays in the area.
