WESTMINSTER, SC – The South Carolina Department of Transportation shut down U.S. 123 between Cleveland Pike and Hopewell Church Roads after a tractor-trailer rolled over Monday.
This collision happened before 9 a.m. Fox Carolina said the driver was spared from harm, while numerous chickens inside the truck died as a result.
Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, who also responded to the scene, has asked travelers to avoid this area for the investigation and scene clearance process.
During this temporary closure, drivers can still use Toccoa Highway going to River Road, Jarrett Bridge Road to North Horseshoe Bridge Road, and Highway 76 extending back to Highway 123 as alternative routes.
SCDOT crews have not announced a time estimate as to when the scene will clear and when all lanes will reopen. In addition, the sheriff’s office has not specified the exact cause of this rollover collision.
