Man, 54, dies as box truck, SUV collide in Clinton

CLINTON, SC – A 54-year-old man lost his life in a collision involving a Toyota SUV and a box truck Wednesday afternoon, Fox Carolina reports.

The circumstances behind this serious wreck remain unclear. However, it took place before 3 p.m. when the box truck driver and SUV motorist collided at the intersection of Highway 72 and Charlottes Road. Prior to the incident, the box truck driver was going west on Highway 72, and the SUV motorist, accompanied by two passengers, was north on Old Mill Road.

After arriving, the Laurens County Coroner’s Office declared the 54-year-old man dead at the scene, identifying him as Nicolas Perez Mendez. South Carolina Highway Patrol, who also responded to the crash site, said another driver was injured.

Authorities did not confirm whether Mendez operated the box truck or the SUV.
