FAIR PLAY, SC – One driver, who later fled the scene, attempted to merge lanes on I-85 and cut off a big rig, leading the truck to overturn and sending the truck driver to a hospital Friday.
This collision happened around 4:30 a.m. on the interstate’s southbound lanes on mile marker 3, WYFF4 reports. South Carolina Highway Patrol said the hit-and-run suspect’s vehicle did not actually collide with the big rig. However, since the semi-motorist saw that the suspect’s vehicle was coming close to theirs, they swerved off the road to avoid the wreck. The drifting, as mentioned, did not work and still ended in the collision.
SCHP is deeming this a “no contact hit-and-run” crash and confirmed that the truck driver is recovering from minor wounds. The Townville Fire Department, who were among the first responders, indicated that they had to perform an extended extrication process in order to free the truck driver, who was deeply entrapped.
South Carolina Department of Transportation crews had to shut down the southbound lanes for several hours for the clean-up process and troopers’ investigation. All lanes reopened before 2 p.m. However, at the time of the reporting, traffic was still moving at a slow pace, with rates averaging about 18 mph.
At this time, no description of the suspect or their vehicle has been provided. When this detail, along with other pieces of information concerning Friday’s wreck surface, then you can count on our team of news writers to provide updates.
