SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC — A 35-year-old driver died Monday night after their car rear-ended a tractor-trailer on Interstate 85 in Greer, reports FOX Carolina.
South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers responded to an unspecified span of I-85 shortly after 9:50 p.m.
Preliminary details show the victim, Wilmer Alexander Mejia Romero, was driving a passenger car northbound when it collided with the back of a northbound big rig which had come to a top in the roadway.
Mejia Romero, a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, died as a result of their injuries, confirmed officials.
The driver of the truck was not reported hurt.
It was not immediately clear why the truck stopped in the roadway and whether any charges are expected to be filed.
