CRFD fire engine crashes into pole at Richland County intersection

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC — Richland County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a crash Wednesday morning involving a fire engine in northeast Columbia, according to Fire Rescue 1.

The accident happened at the intersection of Wilson Boulevard and Summerhill Drive, prompting an emergency response at around 9:22 a.m.

While the cause and nature of the wreck remains unclear, footage taken in the immediate aftermath shows a fire engine crashed against a pole. The incident, which occurred during wet weather conditions, also appeared to have damaged an ornamental brick sign at the neighborhood entrance.

A spokesperson with the South Carolina Highway Patrol has confirmed that the striking engine belongs to the Columbia-Richland Fire Department. An investigation remains open and ongoing.

No  major injuries have been reported following the collision.
