1 injured as dump truck overturns on SC-544 in Horry County

HORRY COUNTY, SC – A rollover crash involving a dump truck last Friday, July 19, near Myrtle Beach left one person injured, reports WMBF News.

The accident unfolded on a stretch of State Route 544 near Carolina Bays Parkway (State Route 31), prompting a response from Horry County Fire Rescue crews shortly after 11:00 a.m.

Officials did not go into detail about the incident but the dump truck was transporting dirt when it overturned, spilling a large volume across the roadway. Crews were dispatched to the scene for clean-up, and the road closure was expected to stay in place for an extended time.

By 11:45 a.m., 45 minutes after the initial report, motorists were still being asked to avoid the area.

It’s unclear whether the person hurt was the driver of the truck or a passenger, but no other vehicles were involved.

An investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol was underway.
