3 killed in big rig collisions on Ohio Turnpike in Erie Co.

ERIE COUNTY, OH – Three people were killed in two separate collisions that involved two big rigs on the Ohio Turnpike on Sunday.

According to Cleveland19, the first collision occurred before 6:45 a.m. on the eastbound lanes. Preliminary details show that the driver of this big rig drifted off the road and crashed into a tow truck with activated emergency lights stopped on the shoulder.

The truck driver’s passenger, 32-year-old Dantrail Reese from Indianapolis, died at the scene, and the driver was hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials had to shut down a portion of the road, resulting in significant traffic congestion. It was during this time that a driver of a van rear-ended another big rig.

The force of the crash caused the van occupants, the driver, and the passenger to succumb to their injuries at the scene. They were identified as 56-year-old Hongwei Wang, the passenger, and 56-year-old Zhangli Liu, from Chicago. Wang was the driver and Liu the passenger. The big rig driver was uninjured.

Authorities shut down the area for a few hours so crews could clean up the debris from the crash.
