MARSHALL, NC – As of Wednesday, North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed charges for a trash truck driver who was responsible for a crash that killed two cyclists on Tuesday, July 1.
Troopers told ABC 4 News that the trash truck driver was charged with: two counts of Misdemeanor death by vehicle, and “Driving left of center.” He has been identified as Cody Munday, from Alexander, North Carolina, and “is under a $5,000 unsecured bond.”
The collision unfolded before 6:45 p.m. when Munday struck three cyclists traveling on N.C. 251 East. Two cyclists died at the scene. They were identified as 32-year-old Jacob Hill and 27-year-old Leonard Antonelli.
The third cyclist was left with minor injuries. Officials have identified him as Griffin Tichenor, who was sent to a hospital for treatment.
