Man, 84, loses life in fiery box truck wreck in Salisbury 

SALISBURY, NC – An 84-year-old man operating a box truck passed away when his truck hit an overhead sign and caught on fire on I-85 South near exit 72 last Thursday afternoon.

This collision happened around 12:15 p.m., WBTV reports. Prior to the truck colliding with the sign and bursting into flames, it had struck a guardrail and then gone over it.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the driver, 84-year-old Elemer Lee Carpenter from Winston-Salem, succumbed to fatal wounds at the scene.
