Fiery head-on wreck involving Freightliner in Selma kills car driver

SELMA, NC – A 42-year-old man, who was allegedly impaired, hit a Freightliner truck head-on with his 2015 Nissan Sentra, leading the truck to catch fire and claiming his life.

This collision happened around 5 p.m. Tuesday on NC 39 adjacent to Meadowbrook Lane, according to WRAL. Authorities said after the car and 2024 Freightliner M2106 collided, the driver of the truck lost control, leading them to drift off the road and crash.

The Freightliner, which carried gasoline, burst into flames and spread to some parts of the woods. Despite the damage, the driver, who cooperated with authorities, was able to walk away unscathed, and fire crews were able to extinguish the truck’s flames and put out the fire in the woods before it spread.

The Nissan driver, who was identified as Quentin Peter Greear, succumbed to fatal wounds at the scene.
