ZEBULON, NC – A driver was hospitalized for minor injuries after a fiery cement truck rollover crash on U.S. Highway 264 Monday.
The truck collision happened around 11:00 a.m. near Lizard Lick Road, according to CBS 17. Preliminary details show that the cement truck lost a tire, which caused the truck driver to lose control of their vehicle and crash into a tree. The force of the crash caused the truck to overturn and catch on fire.
The truck driver was the sole occupant of their vehicle and the only injured person. North Carolina State Highway Patrol said they were cited due to the poor quality of their tires.
Several police cruisers and fire trucks blocked a major portion of the highway so crews could put out the fire and render aid. During the closures, one lane was kept open to accommodate the flow of traffic. All lanes have reopened since.
