Driver charged after fatal box truck vs. 18-wheeler crash near Riegelwood

RIEGELWOOD, NC – A driver is facing a number of charges following a multi-vehicle crash near Riegelwood that claimed the life of his passenger on Thursday afternoon.

According to WECT, 29-year-old Nicholas Fellers was behind the wheel of a box truck when it collided with an 18-wheeler that had stopped for construction on NC-87 near Old Lake Road.

The passenger in the box truck, 35-year-old Gabriel McCurdy from Thomasville, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

Fellers was taken to a local hospital with unspecified injuries. He was subsequently charged with failure to reduce speed and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle in connection with the crash.
