1 killed, another hurt in I-95 collisions involving tanker truck in Dunn

DUNN, NC – One person died and another was injured in two separate collisions on I-95 North that involved a fuel tanker truck on Tuesday.

According to ABC 11, in one crash, a pickup truck driver had rear-ended a fuel tanker truck near mile markers 72 and 73. The other collision happened when one driver’s car hydroplaned, crashed into a barrier, and then overturned near mile marker 77.

The pickup truck driver had died, and the car driver was hospitalized for unspecified injuries.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol suspects that an initial chain-reaction collision is what ultimately caused the pickup truck driver to crash into the fuel tanker truck. Slick road conditions may also have been a factor.

As of this writing, troopers have not disclosed the deceased individual’s identity or announced any charges.
