MILLS RIVER, NC – One man in his 30s was sent to a hospital, and another was charged following a t-bone collision Sunday, Blue Ridge Now reports.
According to preliminary details from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a tanker truck driver had pursued an unprotected left turn onto NC Highway 280 when they collided with an oncoming Ford Explorer SUV.
The collision happened before 9:45 p.m. and warranted a response from troopers and EMS crews. After arriving, one ambulance took the Ford driver to Mission Hospital. The driver is listed in stable condition. He was identified as 31-year-old Samuel Mullenax from Hendersonville.
Additional details from troopers revealed that the truck driver was turning from a driveway prior to the crash and did not suspect he was impaired. He was identified as 30-year-old Stephen Neill, also from Hendersonville, and is faced with a failing to yield charge. Crashes are common on this five-lane highway, authorities noted.
Officials shut down the majority of NC 280 for three hours for the clean-up process and investigation. One lane in each direction remained open to accommodate the flow of traffic.
