1 hospitalized after three-truck collision in Gastonia

GASTONIA, NC – One person was hospitalized for minor injuries after an 18-wheeler hydroplaned on I-85 South and collided with two other semi-trucks Monday.

WSOCTV said the multi-truck crash took place around 11 p.m. near Highway 321. Prior to colliding with the other trucks, the 18-wheeler crashed into a center wall and jackknifed.

The force of the three-truck collision caused diesel fuel to spill from one of the trucks, leading to a several-hour-long closure. Crews sprinkled sand onto the road to help clean up the spill.

After many hours, workers were said to have reopened the area around 6 a.m.
